Frequently asked questions about renovation and cabinetry
What is the difference between a cabinetmaker and a general contractor?
The general contractor coordinates structure and trades (demolition, plumbing, electrical, finishing). The cabinetmaker builds the cabinets, vanities, wall units and millwork. Ébénisterie SAM does both: we manage your site and build your furniture in our Dorval workshop.
Which areas do you serve?
All of the island of Montreal (Plateau, Outremont, Westmount, NDG, Villeray, Rosemont, Ahuntsic, West Island), Laval and the South Shore. The assessment visit is free and without obligation.
How long does a kitchen renovation take?
A turnkey kitchen is delivered 2 to 8 weeks after the plans are approved, depending on scope. Cabinets are built in the workshop while the site is prepared, which shortens the timeline.
Do you handle renovation permits?
Yes. For turnkey projects we prepare the transformation-permit applications with your borough and account for PIIA rules where the building is subject to them, especially plexes and century homes.
Is refacing better than a new kitchen?
If the cabinet boxes are sound, refacing replaces doors, panels, counters and hardware for roughly a third of the price of a new kitchen, with no demolition. We will tell you honestly at the visit if the boxes are not suitable.
Let's talk about your project
Tell us about the room you want to renovate. We call back the same day to schedule a free assessment visit in Montreal, Laval or the South Shore.
